Guest Voices: Lisa Forsyth

You might have noticed a recent contibutor to my blog writing some great posts credited as "A post from Lisa's bad brain, guest voice inside Raven’s Brain. ". For full disclosure, Lisa is my partner of 11+ plus years (this summer it will be twelve - mind blowing!), but she's also an excellent writer possessing fabulous talent in, well, "writing good stuff". I'm much more casual, as regular readers surely can attest! Lisa decided to start posting some of her great thoughts and share her varied insights and experience here at Raven's Brain, since I already have a small, established audience and she didn't want to maintain a blog of her own. I've enjoyed reading Lisa's posts and feel her writing is thought-provoking, honest and full of interesting perspectives. I believe her voice will bring many great things to this blog and help it extend and grow in new directions.

Here's a bit about Lisa, from her Employee Engagement Network Profile:

I am currently the Director of Tactical Development at msnbc.com. The mission of the Tactical Team is to support msnbc.com’s profitability goals by rapidly executing opportunistic projects for maximum reach and revenue impact—these projects are most often quick-win sales and business opportunities that manifest without notice and could not be planned for during fiscal year priority and resource forecasting, so our tactic was to create a team that could plan for the unplanned.

My interest in technology, and the web in particular, started while pursuing a Master’s degree in English and Film at the University of Florida. The English Department received a grant to establish computer-based writing labs, and I taught experimental writing courses that examined how different technologies transformed the way students wrote and communicated with one another. I was on the path to a Ph.D. with the assumption I would become professor of film theory someday somewhere, but my experience in the classroom sparked my curiosity about how the web was transforming the way we interacted with one another more than anything I was actually studying, so I made the decision to leave with my Masters and see where this interest took me (this was back in 1994, when the web was still nascent). I started a career in web development and moved from designer, to engineer, to program manager before taking on a management role.
